Term Deposits

Crossroads CU's term deposits offer you a secure, worry-free investment that guarantees you a set return over a fixed time period. You can invest in them for a little while or a long while, and get instant access or rewards for leaving it alone to gather interest. Plus, they are 100% guaranteed.

There are a number of term deposit options to choose from. We can help you choose the option that best suits your needs and goals. All of our term deposits offer:

·         competitive rates

·         variable term lengths

·         redeemable and non-redeemable options

·         principal and interest guarantee

Index-Linked Investments

If you find the potential of the stock market appealing but don't want to risk losing your principal investment, then you should consider Index-Linked Term Investments. They are fixed-term investments that are tied to the average monthly performance of a stock index (such as the S&P 500 Index®).

Your investment stays at Crossroads Credit Union, which means your principal is 100% guaranteed. So even if the index doesn't perform well before its maturity, you are guaranteed to get your principal back in full. On the other hand, if the index does perform well, you'll receive an interest payment at the investment's maturity date.

Index-linked Investments at Crossroads CU offer:

·         the security of a term deposit with the potential of growth in the stock market

·         returns based on stock market index performance

·         RRSP and TFSA eligibility

·         a 100% guarantee by the Credit Union Deposit Guarantee Corporation

Tax Free Savings Accounts

If you've been looking for a flexible, government registered savings account that happens to be 100% tax-free, you'll be happy to learn about the Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA). Introduced to Canadians over the age of 18 in 2009, this registered savings account allows you to invest up to $5000 per year and withdraw funds whenever you'd like, all without paying any taxes on the investment income you've earned.

Considered by many to be the single most important personal savings tool since the RRSP, the TFSA allows you to:

·         earn income tax-free

·         make income tax-free withdrawals whenever you'd like (non-redeemable TFSAs are also available)

·         contribute a maximum of $5,000 per year
